Ropes: The cords are ordered separately. That is not a drawback but the point at which you choose length and colour to suit the setting: a short rope at an entrance, a longer one along a barrier, the colour to match the occasion.

Stability: The base is weighted so the post stands securely with the rope in place. When setting up, let the rope hang rather than pulling it taut. A gentle curve looks better and takes the strain off the post.

How many posts: Unlike a belt system, the rope length sets the spacing rather than the other way round. Decide first how long the cords should be and place the posts accordingly. A rope that has to be stretched to reach was chosen too short.

Care: High-gloss surfaces need a soft cloth and no abrasives. Aluminium in the matt finish is less demanding in this respect and forgives a rougher cloth now and then.

What it is not for: For queues with high throughput a rope is the wrong choice. Belt systems serve better there because they rearrange more quickly and nobody climbs over a hanging rope.

Storage: Between uses store the posts upright and hang the ropes separately instead of winding them round the posts. Wound cords keep the curve and later hang unevenly.

Combining: Rope posts and belt posts rarely sit well in one line. Where a queue leads into a reception area, it is better to end the belt system and begin the rope line as a separate section, so both keep their own effect.
